Why Children Need Christ-Like Favor and Godly Teaching

Understanding why we teach and guide our children in God’s Word is essential. As Christian parents, pastors, and leaders, God calls us to help our children grow the

same way Jesus grew in wisdom, obedience, and in favor with God and people.

The Birth of Jesus and God’s Purpose for Children

Jesus was born into a family that trusted and obeyed God.

Mary believed the angel’s message and was conceived by the power of the Holy

Spirit.

And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. Luke 2:52

Jesus lived among people on earth but represented His Father from heaven.

He showed us how to walk in obedience, humility, and the fear of God.

In the same way, our children must be taught to live with Christ-like character, to

please God above all, and to walk rightly in the world.

The Hidden Years of Jesus and the Importance of Age Twelve

The Bible shares very little about Jesus’ early childhood, except for one significant moment when He was twelve.

His parents searched for Him, and after three days, they found Him in the temple:

Sitting among the teachers, listening to them, and asking them questions. Luke 2:46

At twelve, a child begins to understand responsibility, right and wrong, and the seriousness of obedience.

Jesus was not truly “lost.” He was exactly where He desired to be—in His Father’s house. This shows how important it is to guide children early, so their hearts learn to desire God’s truth.

The Spiritual Meaning of Being “Lost”

When children enter the world without knowledge of God’s Word, they can easily be influenced, confused, or misled.

God warns us:

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6

A child who lacks biblical knowledge is at risk of becoming spiritually lost in the

crowd.

This is why we must teach children Scripture, so that their identity, decisions, and direction are grounded in God’s truth.

Jesus’ Obedience and Growth

When Mary and Joseph found Jesus in the temple, He said:

Why were you searching for Me? Did you not know that I must be in My Father’s house? Luke 2:49

Jesus was not being stubborn or disrespectful. He was showing that the calling of

God rested upon His life from childhood.

Yet even with His heavenly calling, He remained obedient to His earthly parents.

Then He went down with them to Nazareth and was subject to them. Luke 2:51

Jesus honored His parents, fulfilling the commandment of God.

This reveals the perfect balance, honoring parents while loving and obeying God

above all.

The Life Every Child Needs

A child does not need worldly wealth, success, or fame. A child needs a life

shaped by the ways and will of God. Jesus became the perfect man by fully

obeying His Father:

I came down from heaven not to do My own will, but the will of Him who

sent Me. John 6:38

He was born of a virgin, lived without sin, died for our sins, rose again, and

ascended to heaven so that all who believe in Him may have eternal life. Through Adam, sin entered the world. Through Jesus Christ, salvation came to all who

believe. Because human nature became corrupted by sin, we must be born again by

the Holy Spirit. The Spirit gives us a new heart, a heart that loves God and follows

His Word. Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3

Obedience to God is not to earn His favor. Obedience is the way we glorify God through our lives.

The Purpose of Raising Children in God’s Word

Our mission is to raise children who become a righteous generation, a generation

that knows the Lord, obeys His Word, and walks in His truth. God has shown us through Jesus Christ how to live a life of holiness, humility, and obedience.

The Cross is central, yet His whole life, His teachings, His conduct, His example,

reveal how we must live.

Everything written in Scripture is precise, purposeful, and given so that we may understand and follow the will of God.

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart

from it. Proverbs 22:6

This is our vision: to build a generation rooted in the Word of God, walking in

truth, and glorifying the Lord Jesus Christ in their lives.
